Sub-Tropical System
this afternoon around 4 or 5 pm the GOES-13 weather satellite captured what looks like a sub-tropical low in the Atlantic Ocean near the Azoran Islands, and been looking at the GFS and the US Navy’s NOGAPS model they both show the system holding togather up to 72 hours. I’ll just have to keep monitoring it, and see what happens over the next 5 days heres the satellite imgery of the system!

I can not say with certainty where it’s headed officially since it’s so far out into the Atlantic Ocean things are able change all. I can do is wait, and see what heppens normally we do not see tropical systems forming this early in the Atlantic Ocean we call it Sub-Tropical for a reason since this system made its occurence outside of the Atlantic Hurricane Season witch starts June 1st followed by Pacific Hurricane Season witch starts next Tuesday on May 15th. I’ll keep you posted as it gets closer to the east coast, and the National Hurricane Center is able to send a hurricane hunter aircraft into the system by then we will know more about it, however i am not shutting the door on the fact that moderate shear could tear this system apart so stay tuned!.
Twister Terror strikes big D!
At least two tornadoes touched down in area’s in north, and south Dallas this afternoon, causing widespread damage through out the metroplex with strong winds picking up 18 wheelers, and tossing them like toys according to the National Weather Service in Ft. Worth they described these storms as large, and extremely dangerous with hail up to baseball size in the south Dallas suberb of Arlington, Texas let’s start by looking at video taken by a Fox 4 viewer’s in Dallas, Texas
Dallas/Lancaster, TX Tornado Video Forney, TX Tornado
in the video’s you will notice the size of the funnels. I assume they are EF-3 or bigger conidering an EF-5 is capable of wiping a home clean of it’s foundation with no traces of debris left behind all you need is the right conditions, and elements you have pretty good setup for distaure on the other hand however we will not know what type of tornado hit the area until the National Weather Service does an assessment in the area to see what type of tornado did the damage, and my family in Carrollton, Texas never received any damage to there home all though they was under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning during the time the storms was moving through the area my mom’s sister on the other hand was unfortunate, and got hail at her location in Lewisville, Texas no major damage was done to that location by the hail at the start of event there was a debris ball on radar witch indcated there was a tornado on the ground in terms of where the storms are headed next the models take the storms eastward into Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama then Georgia this weekend as regular Thunderstorms. I am leaving the door open for the possiblity of tornaodes across the Atlanta area if the storms remain strong enough to produce a tornado with the right conditions across the north Georgia area as we head into this weekend!.

National Weather Service get’s cut for money!
I heard in the news yesterday that life saving position’s at the National Weather Service are getting ready to be cut some cut’s include research on Air Quality, intensity forecasts for hurricane’s to name a few of them. In my opinion there taking a big risk with people live’s especially in US airspace where a weather forecast is critical information for example Delta Airline’s flight 191 a L-1011 TriStar aircraft was taken down by a micro burst on approach to Dallas Ft. Worth International Airport in August 1985 killing 130 people in total this was do to the lack of TDWR technology at us airports it’s this kind of information that comes to people’s minds when budget cuts are proposed to the National Weather Service, as a result most National Weather Service forecast offices are already under staffed leading to longer warning issuance time’s, and less warning for the public what’s going to make thing’s worse is the president’s proposed 2013 budget that will gut the National Weather Service even further what makes it outrageous is the proposals it’s going to be used for such as $325 million for military marching bands, $60 million to protect the salmon population in the pacific when you can cut the military marching bands, and use that money to research life saving information all this in the name of a already de-valued currency know as the US Dollar keep in mind you can replace money but you can not replace a person once you have lost some one there gone forever, and will not come back!.

visiting the site on a mobile device!
I recently been getting visits on this site from user’s of mobile devices such as Apple iPad, and some user’s have noticed some posts was not loading fully the page loads fine the problem your experiencing is if your running an older version of iPad such as iPad 1 the processor inside the older iPad is not able handle the pages load time. I recommend visiting the site on newer mobile devices such as Apple iPad 2 or 3, and or Apple iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 a faster device will solve your load time problems. I find faster devices more reliable then slower ones!.
Global Warming a real myth!!
I heard news recently about two meteorologist’s named Mark Johnson of ABC, and FOX affiliated meteorologist Andre Bernier who for a long time was a broadcast meteorologist on The Weather Channel in Spring 1984, is being accused for telling the truth about Global Warming witch i thank is a myth personally. I do not bring up this subject normally when. I am posting on this website since. I do not believe in Global Warming, but when somebody can’t handle the truth about the same subject coming from the local meteorologist, and demands the local meteorologist be thrown off the air that in my opinion is a pretty ridiculous reason to do so, and makes me sick too see that we allow idiot’s to get there way however. I also learned that you give a person alot of money they will write, say or do, anything you want them to sounds like Al Gore to me to continue reading about this subject click on the link below to go to Dave’s article on examiner.com. I praise Mr. Saurer for exposing the truth about there decision!.

Icy situation turns critical in Alaska!
In the past 2 to 3 day we have been hearing news of the town of Cordova, Alaska getting hammered by feet upon feet of snow as much as 10 to 20 feet of snow accumulating non-stop over the last 2 to 3 days, With temperatures of 30 to 35 below zero is the making for a very hazardous situation as all that snow has accumulated on roofs of homes stressing there framework to the point structural failure meaning the home is weighed down by so much snow per square inch the houses wood frame can only tolerate so much weight before. It has to give away and come down on you as see here with this Minnesota football stadium, fortunately for the stadium there was no one in it now thank about, All that snow falling at a very heavy rate for 2 or 3 days straight with no breaks in activity that’s a disaster times four waiting to happen even worse for homes build’t before these stricter building codes we have today

now to make things worse you throw sea ice into the mix frozen solid enough to walk or drive on, with the need of heating oil to keep your self warm in sub zero temperatures, All that snow on the roof of your house fixen to cause it to collapse that makes for quite a dangerous situation as a result people had to be evacuated from there homes to be moved to Red Cross shelters, while tankers a modified cargo ship designed to carry things like oil and gas across the Bering Sea too the port of Nome, Alaska, with the assistants of a ice breaker operated the US Coast Guard to offload the oil and gas the since the normal, Fall shipping schedule was interrupted by a storm in the month of November, now as far as the forecast goes. I have been looking at the RUC forecast models they suggest the winter weather and sub-zero temperatures is going to continue for the next 24 hours for Cordova in Alaska with no improvement in terms of the temperatures!.

Baseball Season
It’s that time of the year again with spring season right around the corner it not only means Tornado Season it also means Baseball Season is also around the corner in a month or so. I had a good season off now as a result. I am all out of shape and need to get fit again since baseball registration opened yesterday. I am in group called Big League players that are over 18 years of age. I started playing baseball in 2001 matter of fact one of my first games was played at Lady Comets Field behind South Gwinnett High School here in Snellville, GA. I was only 15 years old at that time then. I believe in 2004 we moved to where we play now at Bay Creek Park in Loganville, GA. I am not sure what team I am going to be yet this is my 11th season it’s hard to believe 10 years of my life has gone by so fast!.
Coldest air on record expected in the southeast!.
the coldest air on record is expected to impact the southeast united states Tuesday night as a very powerful cold front is expected to move south from Canada bring us some very cold overnight lows across much of north Georgia lets start by looking at the European forecast model or ECMWF at 850 mbs 48 hours out as you will notice temperatures well be below normal minus 14 degrees Celsius now translate that to Fahrenheit that would be 7 degrees at 12z (7 AM) Tuesday however that is just one model package

Now lets look at UKMET forecast model at the same time frame 48 hours out at 12z (7 AM) Tuesday. It keeps us in the minus 14 degrees Celsius range so what is this suggesting?.

We might see lows in the single digits on Tomorrow Night however it depends on how fast the cold front is moving during the day today. If it moves further south over the north Georgia and stalls for a couple of days it will be a high possibility that lows will hit the single digits now if the high moves north we will only reach 20-25 degrees this is just one of the little surprises mother nature throws your way at times also keep in mind the typical skeptic’s will use one excuse after the other the most over used excuse is ”It’s not going to happen!.” when in reality those skeptic’s do not read forecast models or make forecasts of there own another thing. I find entertaining is when people complain how cold it is outside or call the weatherman a lier because hes right sometimes LOL!.

Daylight Savings Time ends tonight
this is the yearly reminder that Daylight Savings Time ends tonight at 2:00 am setting us back to standered time all clocks must be set back one hour before you go to bed unless you have a clock that syncs its self with a time signal then there is no need of setting that clock manually it will set its self to 1:00 AM at 2:00 AM ET also all Windows PC’s and Mac computers have also been cued to set them selfs back one hour tonight!.
Overnight low temperatures expected to drop like a rock!
NAM Surface models show unseasonably cold air behind a strong cold frontal boundary moving into Georgia by Wednesday night will set the stage for overnight lows to drop into the 30-35 degree range with frost possible across most of the Atlanta metro area so those furnaces and heaters will be needed for the first time this year. I know what it’s like not having heat last winter we could not figure out why our furnaces burners would not light so we called are friends at Shumate Heating & Air they came out looked at our heating system told us we had a bad gas valve that was preventing the pilot light from igniting the burners in our heating system so we had to buy a new gas valve it got quite expensive it was $400 for a new valve. I recommand avoiding a similar experience by having your heating system inspected every year to avoid the same problem. I also recommand you bring plants indoors before colder temperatures since colder temperatures can cause a good bit of damage to warm weather plants also drain water hoses of excess water because if excess water sets in the hose the colder air will cause the water to freeze making the hose expand causing it to bust will be useless next time you need it because it will have a huge leak where the ice caused it to expand during the cold weather
Colder Temperatures Make Yearly Appearance!.
I am excited to see much cooler temperatures moving into southeast region this early in the fall season witch in a normal year would still be hot and humid climatically however we have seen our fair share of warm fall seasons this year seems completely different compared to fall seasons prior to this one. I have also been looking over the GFS long range surface model it’s seggesting we will see lows in the upper 30′s as far north as the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia with frost a possiblity in these areas as far as lows in the city could reach 40-45 degrees in the suburbs of Atlanta with lower 50′s as far south as Macon on Saturday night!.
Cooler Nights
looks like the days of record heat is over according to an Area Forecast Discussion written yesterday by the National Weather Service the first autumn cold front of the season has already moved through the southeast region yesterday setting the stage for an early taste of fall temperatures with highs in the mid 60′s and lows in the 50′s at night a much needed change from this summers record breaking heat of 90′s in the afternoon however NAM surface models continue to remains in agreement with this autumn trend for the next 3-5 days out of this week with 40′s a possiblity in the far northern towns of Georgia!.
Winter Weather Advisory
at 11:33 mountain daylight time the National Weather Service in Missoula, Montana issues a winter weather advisory for 1-3 inches of snow on Logan Pass above 6500 feet in the Glacier National Park!.
Hurricane Irene
Hurricane Irene a dangerous catgorey 3 hurricane is making her way toward landfall in Willmington, North Carolina with winds of 105 knots or 120 mph moving northwest at 10 knots or 12 mph at this time she has a 30 percent chance of reaching catgory 5 major hurricane status however GFS 850 mbs forecast models are seggesting rainfall amounts of 9 inches could fall from this tropical system as precipitatable water amounts could reach 3 inches with flash flooding likely as a result evacuation orders maybe given to the citys listed below

First Day Of School!., Summer break is over!.
“Time to get up!” was the sound heard from parents all across the Gwinnett County area this morning around 5:30 & 6 AM as students from 1st grade to a seniors in high school arrived for there first day of school beginning this morning at 7 AM eastern time with temperatures expected to reach the upper 90′s this afternoon the end to the first school day will be a bit on the uncomfortable side however the forecast show’s no improvement as forecast high temperatures are expected to remain in the 90′s through this Thursday as an area of high pressure will remain centered over the region after tomorrow keeping sunny to partly cloudy skies present through this Friday!.
Tropical Weather Forecasting
now that tropical weather in the Atlantic & Pacific ocean is starting to pick up now would be a good time to download and print hurricane tracking charts to make your own forecast for a hurricane or tropical storm landfall. I have posted two links to hurricane tracking charts for both oceans if you have any tropical weather headed your way this is one of the tools you will need even though we have advanced technology such as Hurricane Hunter Planes, AWOS, ASOS, Buoys, Radar, GOES-E and GOES-W there is nothing more ground truth then your own tropical weather forecast made with the data you collected based on your opinion!.
